Bulgaria's 3 major international airports (Sofia, Varna, Bourgas) are joined by this regional airport. Located near the village of Kroumovo, it has had its ups and downs. Active until 1980, it had fallen into disuse due to a lack of passengers. For some thirty years, its activity was greatly reduced. In the early 2010s, it took over some regular charter routes linking Plovdiv with Amsterdam, London, Istanbul, Dublin, etc... Ryanair and Pegasus are also based here.
