This edifice dedicated to the Virgin Mary was built to celebrate the departure of the Turks and the creation of the third Bulgarian kingdom.
In Cyrillic: Храм "Пресвета Богородица". Built in 1837 in the Bulgarian National Renaissance style, on the site of a medieval cathedral destroyed by the Turks, this religious edifice saw the first mass given in the Bulgarian language. The wooden iconostasis was carved by artisans of the Debour school. With its yellow façade and three domes, it towers over a flight of stairs. Beautifully decorated with rural icons and frescoes, it pays homage to the Bulgarian liberators.
