SAINT-NICOLAS CHURCH
Tallinn's pre-Gothic church once served as a gathering place for early German settlers.
The pre-Gothic church of St. Nicholas was built in the 13th century in honor of the patron saint of sailors, merchants and children. It served as a meeting place for the first German settlers. Destroyed during the war, it was rebuilt during the Soviet era. The ruins at the foot of the church contain the remains of the Soviet bombardment of Tallinn in March 1944. The church houses a permanent collection of religious art dating back to medieval times. Weekend organ concerts at 4pm and elevator to the top of the tower.
