Prison built under the orders of Tsar Nicholas , converted into a museum for visitors to discover the country's Soviet past.

The prison was built under the orders of Czar Nicholas I in 1840. It was used as a military building, then as a prison from the 1920s onwards. Today it was transformed into a museum around the Soviet period. It is an unmissable visit for history lovers and all those who wish to better understand the country's Soviet past. Tens of thousands of people were locked up here before being sent to the gulag, or executed within these walls. The exhibition is really interesting.
