Russalka (1902) is a memorial to the sailors of the ship of the same name. It is located on the beach of Kadriorg, is a monument to the battleship Russalka, which left Tallinn harbour for Helsinki in 1893. A storm prevented the ship from reaching its destination; all 177 crewmen perished in the wreck. The Russalka monument, by Amandus Adamson, depicts an angel holding an Orthodox cross - in the supposed direction of the ship. It is a major work of Estonian art, as it is the first Estonian sculpture.
