KREENHOLM
Founded by Baron Ludwig Knoop, this textile factory was the largest in the Russian Empire in 1913.
Located south of Narva, the Kreenholm factory is famous in the region for having been particularly productive from 1857 - the date of its foundation - until the break-up of the Soviet Union, which dealt a brutal blow to its activity. Despite this, the company has continued to thrive to this day. Founded by Baron Ludwig Knoop, the textile factory was the largest in the Russian Empire in 1913, employing almost 10,000 people! The site is well worth a visit for the majesty of its red-brick complex.
