The church was built by Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen in 1919. The building was severely damaged by bombing during the Second World War, before being renovated in the 1960s. Its parish is one of the largest in the country. Today, the church houses the largest organ in Estonia and serves as a concert hall. In 2009, the organ was upgraded to 56 stops, created by a German organ builder.
