University founded by King Gustav II Adolphus of Sweden, with four museums, a plant garden and a sports complex.
Its four museums, plant garden and sports complex are generally open to all citizens of Tartu. The university has some 150 buildings, 30 of which are outside Tartu. The six Corinthian columns and the large portico are worth seeing when you arrive at the university. The university was founded in 1632 by King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden, but was closed throughout the 18th century because of the Great Northern War with Russia. Since its creation, it is especially known for its teaching of sciences. It houses the Museum of Classical Art.
