ESTONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM (EESTI RAHVA MUUSEUM)
Estonian National Museum with permanent exhibitions of thousands of objects illustrating the everyday life of Estonians.
Initiated by the Estonian government in order to protect and make known the cultural and historical heritage of the country, the primary objective of the museum was to enhance the intrinsic peasant culture. The thousands of objects preserved are a trace of the country's history, notably objects that illustrate the daily life of Estonians through the two permanent exhibitions "Encounters" and "Echoes of the Urals". These exhibitions take visitors on a journey through the eleven rooms of the museum and reveal the history of the peoples and communities of Northern Europe and the Baltic region who have no territory of their own, but whose culture and history are an integral part of Estonia's. Digital installations show the typical Estonian house, local cuisine, ways of life, languages, dialects and traditional dress.
The temporary exhibitions focus on the life and culture of the country nowadays, but also in the Soviet era. The exhibition "Estonia made at home", designed by the students of the Estonian School of Fine Arts, tells about the way of life of Estonians in the 1990s and the impact of the Soviet period on the construction of the country's identity and the people. There is everything: photos, toys, clothes, gadgets from that time and even cars. An interesting testimony to the history of Estonia and its culture that is worth a visit!
