PIUSA RESERVE
A sand quarry a few kilometers from the border with Russia, where you can observe white sand dunes.
A few kilometers from the border with Russia, in the small village of Piusa, a sand quarry offers a landscape that is unique in Estonia. Originally, the site was used to extract sand for glassmaking. Now a nature reserve, you can observe the dunes of white, ochre or red sand, depending on the location, and venture out into the surrounding forest for a walk. The caves can also be visited, and are home to one of Estonia's largest colonies of bats. There's even a nice little café!
