NOTRE-DAME COLLEGIATE CHURCH
A unique collegiate church with its descending staircase and Limousin Romanesque style.
Built in 1145 under the orders of Robert III, Count of Auvergne, this collegiate church stands out for its original layout with a counter-slope. Its entrance is via a wide staircase of about fifteen steps leading down to the nave and the altar. In the Limousin Romanesque style, with pointed arch vaults and arches, the only thing that is Auvergnat about it is its quarter-circle vaults. The capitals at the crossing of the transept are also noteworthy. The collegiate church is now classified as a historical monument. Because of its imposing size, it is the third major Romanesque building in the department.
