SAINT-AUSTREMOINE ABBEY-CHURCH
Saint-Austremoine Abbey with a polychrome interior in Issoire with a worked and chiseled facade.
The largest Romanesque church in Auvergne, its construction would have started at the end of the 11th century and ended at the beginning of the 12th century. The sun's rays caressing the blond arkose walls of Montpeyroux give a golden colour to the façade. The chevet is decorated with the signs of the zodiac. Polychrome interior: the pillars of the nave covered with colors and floral motifs are a marvel. In the crypt, a shrine contains the relics of Saint Austremoine, the first bishop of Auvergne.
