GARES ROUTIÈRES
There are two bus stations in Tanga: on Pangani Road and the most recent Kange, 5 km away. Both serve the same destinations but it is from the newest terminal that large buses leave in order to relieve congestion in the city. Minibuses (daladalas) are still parked 400 m south of the railway line. It is preferable to buy your ticket the day before, free of luggage and time constraints. This is by far the most difficult place in Tanzania to buy a ticket at its fair price. In no way should you accept the help of a reeler, let alone advance him money. Everything here is a pretext for scam and things are greatly facilitated by the virtual absence of bus company offices, with the notable exception of Ratco express, and therefore by the lack of clear and reliable information. For those who go to the south shore of Pangani, the last ferry crossing the eponymous river leaves at 10pm.
Daily buses to Dar and Mombasa. For Mombasa, it takes 4 to 5 hours to get there. For Dar es Salaam, there are several companies that offer departures all morning. Allow about 6 hours. For Morogoro, it's about the same thing: 5 hours. For Arusha, it takes at least 7 hours to get there. For Lushoto, there are direct buses in the morning. Allow 3 to 4 hours. For Pangani, there are several buses and minibuses daily, from about 6:30 am to 5:30 pm. The track is not bad but there are many stops. As a result, it can take up to an hour and a half to cover the 50 km between the two cities!
