Museum, in a slavers' residence, retracing the dark hours of slavery in Bagamoyo.
Built in 1860 by a wealthy Arab merchant, the Caravan Serail marked the end of the long journey of slaves captured around Lake Tanganyika, after a six-month march. This building was the residence of the slave traders, their slaves being parked around the walls before being sold on the waterfront, where the current fish market is located. The interesting museum recalls the dark days of slavery and reminds us that a century after its abolition by the British, an invisible distinction could be felt between the descendants of slaves and the locals
