PARK HYATT ZANZIBAR
A new hotel complex offering rooms decorated in oriental and Zanzibarite tones and style.
This impressive hotel is divided into two buildings: the Unesco-listed Mambo Msiige, dating from the 17th century, and the more contemporary Zamani Residence. The hotel, with 67 rooms including 11 suites, is ideally located on the seafront, right in the center of town. Access to the beach is right in front of the hotel. The rooms are decorated in a sophisticated and successful oriental-Zanzibar style, a change from the classic decor of chain hotels. The pool facing the ocean and the lounge and restaurant areas are fabulous. Top-class amenities.

The beach area is rather dirty so don’t go here for a beach holiday, but great location to visit stone town and relax after. The food is also good, with fresh coconuts for breakfast!

All the hotel staff are extremely efficient and happy, every single member of staff has time to chat to the guests, from the in-house keepers and restaurant staff to the managers, everyone is friendly. I wish I could remember so many names! Dawson a waiter in the main restaurant is particularly helpful, I’m not sure where Dawson worked before but when served by him at dinner time it was ‘fine dining’. Nothing was too trouble for him even for us fussy diners (thank you Dawson, you are great!).
I had to request Maintenance twice; once for a GoPro stick problem and then for a locked padlock on my suitcase with the key inside, both times Maintenance arrived very fast and kindly sorted the problems without hesitation. They were great.
The food in the restaurant at dinner time is extremely good. The ingredients used are clearly high quality and we had some amazing food, probably the best food we’ve eaten anywhere!
Breakfast was good with a lot of choice, from cereals, hot food, cheeses and fruit all available. Fresh coconuts are also prepared to order. Coffee is really good but sometimes strong; don’t be afraid to ask for some extra milk, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. No grilled tomatoes available and bacon is beef for any fellow Brit’s coming to stay, plenty of choice otherwise!
Taxi’s and Tuk Tuk’s are available outside the hotel and be prepared to be asked if you want a taxi every single time you step out.
If we return to Zanzibar we will only stay at this hotel without doubt.
Sunsets are absolutely amazing at the hotel.
