This is where you will have to pay the entrance fee to visit the Kilwa conservation sites before taking a boat to Kisiwani, Songo Mnara and Kivinje. The fee is used to fund renovations to these historic sites which are in need of repair. Note that a tourist office opened in 2015 opposite the bus station (with EU and French funding for the renovation of the Kilwa ruins), to develop tourism in this part of the country. The city of Rochefort in Charente-Maritime is notably involved in the project.
