An arid region home to 400 species of birds, numerous crocodiles, elephants, lions, the rare Buffon's cobe...
About 150 km from Mbeya is Lake Rukwa. Fishermen exploit its shallow waters, which abound in crocodiles. The valley of Lake Rukwa is difficult to access, take the road to Chunya for 70 km and then continue past the village for 80 km, only in the dry season. It is an arid region very rich in fauna: 400 species of birds, numerous crocodiles, elephants, lions, the rare Buffon's cobe, hippotragues, kudus and sitatungas... To the south of the lake, at Ivuna, is an archaeological site from the copper age.
