ABU EL-ABBAS EL-MORSI MOSQUE
Mosque dominating the esplanade, with five domes, two white minarets and eight monumental columns inside.
The Abu al-Abbas al-Morsi Mosque is built on an older building, dating from 1766, which houses an Andalusian Sufi cleric, al-Morsi, who died in 1287. The present mosque was built by the Italian architect Mario Rossi in 1929, who built several mosques in Egypt. The mosque dominates the esplanade with its five domes and two white minarets. The interior is supported by eight monumental marble columns. Every year, the Sufi saint is celebrated during a lively mouled.
