NABI DANIEL MOSQUE
Nabi Daniel Mosque, home to the tombs of Egyptian royalty such as Saïd Pacha and Prince Hassan.
The Nabi Daniel mosque, named after the prophet common to all three religions of the Book, is built on Hellenistic remains, some of whose columns can still be seen in its foundations, as at the nearby French Institute. A tenacious urban legend places Alexander the Great's tomb in its foundations... The mosque, as seen here, was built in the 18th century and remodeled during the reign of Mohammed Ali. It houses various tombs of the Egyptian royal family, including Saïd Pacha and Prince Hassan.
