ALEXANDRIA STAGE
Alexandria's astonishing neoclassical stadium features a main entrance in the form of a 3-vaulted triumphal arch.
The Alexandria stadium is an astonishing building. It was built in 1929 in a neoclassical, rather Greek-inspired style, and the restorations carried out have preserved its original appearance. The main entrance, a triumphal arch with three arches, is unique. A stroll down rue Omar Toussoun, or the parallel rue El-Gabarte, is a pleasant way to admire some of the villas dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Not far away, on rue Patrice Lumumba, stands a small mausoleum of a local saint, topped by a dome.
