RAS EL-TIN PALACE
Imposing palace built for Mohammed Ali, with white walls, now overlooking the military port.
The "palace at the tip of the figs", or Kasr Ras el-Tin as it should be translated, was originally built between 1834 and 1945 for Mohammed Ali, who had grown fond of Alexandria and spent every summer there with his court. Today, it belongs to the President of the Republic. This imposing building, whose white walls reflect the rays of the Mediterranean sun, now overlooks the military port. Fouad redesigned it, and the current architecture dates back to this king. The entrance to the estate can be seen at the end of the avenue.
