Shallalat Gardens, planted with jacarandas and home to the remains of Arab walls and a huge, barely visible tower.
Situated between the tramway and the old residential area of the Greco-Roman Museum, the Shallalat gardens, planted with jacarandas and flamboyant plants in small rooms that were once very popular, are no longer very well maintained. They are currently being restored to their former glory and to prevent the rubbish bins from piling up. The remains of the Arab walls built in the 9th century by Sultan Ibn Touloun can be seen. Of these medieval fortifications only two enormous towers remain, one of which is barely visible.
