An ancient El-Mangur-style mosque typical of the Delta, with a ceiling made up of small Ottoman-style domes.
The city's oldest mosque, still in the El-Mangur style typical of the Delta, made of red brick. Built in 1577 by one of Prince Haroun's Mamluks. Its ceiling is made up of small domes built in Ottoman style. Each granite column is dedicated to a sheikh. It's the "Al Azhar" of the Delta. Many students from the region and even the Maghreb came here to study. When the British invaded the city in 1807, some inhabitants tried to resist from this mosque. In retaliation, the British commander destroyed the minaret.
