South of the town of Idku, the eponymous lake extends over 7,000 hectares east of Aboukir. The lake is one of the natural stopovers that migratory birds frequent on their wanderings. It is also the nesting place of certain species of marsh birds such as the Sultana, the Bittern and the Senegal Coucal. Salt marshes, salt marshes and dunes, as well as some fruit trees, are present on the tongue of land that separates it from the Mediterranean. It can be the object of an interesting walk.
