ALEXANDRIAN TEMPLE
Temple consisting of two adjoining rooms featuring a bas-relief of Alexander offering a sacrifice to the temple deities.
Leaving the Siwa oasis, where Alexander had gone to seek the legitimacy of his reign over Egypt from the oracle, the conqueror passed through the Bahareyya oasis, where he had a temple built dedicated to Amon, Zeus and Horus. It consists of two adjoining rooms featuring a bas-relief in which Alexander, in the guise of Pharaoh, offers a sacrifice to the temple's deities. Excavated treasures can also be seen, including a few coins. This is the only surviving temple built by Alexander in Egypt.
