Imposing plinth at the corner of the two cornices featuring a statue of Ferdinand de Lesseps.

At the corner of the two cornices, an imposing base will catch your attention. Until 1956, it carried the statue of Ferdinand de Lesseps. The Egyptians unbolted it during the "triple and cowardly aggression" (Nasser's word) that followed the nationalization of the canal. The stripped base of his statue looks orphaned. The statue was recently restored by French foundrymen who rebuilt its feet. Between us, the statue is not very beautiful... Nevertheless, take a walk, admire the wooden boats, and the coming and going of the ships.
