The tourist office is located on the artificial peninsula of Port Tewfiq, on the jetty along the canal. The staff is very friendly, but speaks only rudimentary English and will be of great use to you although they put their heart into it. However, the office will be able to provide you with a map of the city and its surroundings as well as some brochures, some of which are translated into English. The inhabitants gather at the end of the afternoon on the jetty, watching the Russian, Chinese, German and other ships passing by.
