SAINT-ANTOINE MONASTERY
Today, the monastery is home to around twenty religious and Coptic Orthodox to pray or work.
Saint Anthony is considered in the Christian world to be one of the founders of monasticism (secluded life in a monastery), and lived as a secluded hermit in the desert. His spiritual life was long tormented by battles with the devil. When he died, aged 105, a community settled near his tomb, creating this monastery. Founded in the 4th century, today the monastery is home to around twenty Coptic Orthodox monks, who live by prayer, manual labor and intellectual pursuits. An exceptional place for those interested in spirituality.
