Practical information : Going out Barcelona
Timetable
Nightclubs generally fill up quite late in Spain, but this depends above all on their clientele. In the clubs around the Olympic port, frequented by tourists, the atmosphere is already very lively around the stroke of midnight. On the other hand, the clubs in the Zona Alta, popular with young Barcelonians, don't fill up until 2am...
Generally speaking, clubs open every day in the tourist areas (Olympic port, Plaça Reial). In the rest of the city, they are generally open from Thursday to Saturday.
Budget & Tips
Most trendy nightclubs have a guest list that gives you free entry at a certain time, or discounts on tickets for big nights. Check the website of the club you're interested in to get on its list.
The Gran Teatre del Liceu offers a 50% discount for under-26s, if you arrive 2 hours before the start of the show. Over-65s receive a 30% discount.
To find discounted tickets for the rest of the theaters, visit the Tiquet Ramblas area of the Palau de la Virreina about 3 hours before the start of the show. Depending on the program and availability, you'll get up to 50% off the price of tickets.
To be booked
If you want to attend a concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana or an opera at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, remember to book a little in advance when it comes to big international names.
Night transport
The Barcelona metro is open Monday to Thursday and Sunday from 5am to 0am, Friday and bank holiday eves from 5am to 2am, and Saturday 24 hours a day. Night buses (Nitbus) run between 11pm and 5am. Most depart from Plaça Catalunya.
What's very local
Tablaos play an important role in the city's entertainment scene. These flamenco halls, though touristy, generally offer quality shows. In nightclubs, dresscode is generally much more relaxed than in Paris. Be more vigilant in clubs frequented by tourists, where access criteria may be stricter. Finally, take advantage of beachfront clubs: a typically Mediterranean luxury!
