SANTA MARIA DEL PI
Gothic style church with a wonderful collection of Catalan silverware and a bell tower with a beautiful view
Between the cathedral and the Ramblas stands the church of Santa María del Pi, in Gothic style. It was consecrated in 1453 by Bishop Llorens de Terranova. It is said that a hamlet existed here in the5th century. Located outside the Roman city walls, it was known as Vila Nova del Pi ("the new town of the pine"). Of the old pine forest, only a single tree remains today. The basilica has a wonderful collection of Catalan silverware and the bell tower offers a beautiful view of the city.
