CASA CALVET
House mixing several styles receiving the first prize for its architecture, its originality and its modernity from the town hall
It was the first house designed by Gaudí in the Eixample and the only one to win a prize while he was still alive: the annual competition for the city's artistic buildings. The house, designed for the industrialist Pere Mártir Calvet, seems to be one of his most conservative works. However, it actually belongs to the architect's naturalist period, when he was inspired by the geometric shapes of nature. Although it is not open to the public, its façade is worth admiring and the first floor houses some stores.
