Temple in Barcelona, with a medieval courtyard, exhibiting remains of more than 2,000 years of history

Did you know that number 10, carrer Paradís, next to the cathedral, is actually the central point of Mont Tàber, on which the temple dedicated to the cult of the emperor Augustus was erected? While renovating a medieval courtyard, the architect Domènech i Montaner discovered three 9-meter-high columns from the1st century BC. A fourth column from the Roman Barcino, displayed in the Plaça del Rei, is now back in its original location. The remains of this ancient forum bear witness to over 2,000 years of history.

Fermé pour quelques semaines
Sur une rue au nom prédestiné, Paradis, le bâtiment médiéval qui abrite le temple est facile à trouver si on a une carte du quartier gothique. Mais arrivé à destination en cette fin mai 2019 … quelle déception … le bâtiment est fermé pendant quelques semaines pour cause de rénovation. Pas de fenêtre pour tricher et voir un peu les colonnes à l’intérieur. Dommage.
