PALAU DE LA VIRREINA
Baroque palace on the Ramblas with a permanent exhibition of giants
It is said that Manuel de Amat, Viceroy of Peru, amassed such a fortune that he ordered the construction of a sumptuous palace in Barcelona. However, after his untimely death, the building was occupied by his widow, Maria Francesca de Fiveller, which gave the complex the nickname Palau de la Virreina. In 1941, it was declared a Spanish national monument, and since then it has hosted various museums and temporary exhibitions. Today it belongs to the city council and is still used as a cultural center where various exhibitions are held.
