BODRUM MOSQUE (BODRUM CAMII, FORMER CHURCH OF THE CONVENT OF THE MYRELAION)
His name literally means "cave mosque" in Turkish. This building, located in the district of Laleli, was erected in 920-922 by the emperor Lécapène when it bases or restores the convent of women of Du (huile oil de). The church is built on a Roman recorded dating from the time of Constantine the Great, which is a huge rotunda 42 m in diameter, whose original function could not be established. It is converted into tanks by Lécapène and has 75 columns. Composed of three apses, three naves and one narthex, the church is converted into a mosque by Mesih Paşa under Murad III, and suffers serious damage during the fire of the Quartier district in 1911. The crypt below houses the burials of a large number of Byzantine dignitaries, including those of Emperor Lécapène and his wife Théodora.
