This church is one of the best known belonging to the Armenian community in Istanbul. It was built in 1627. Two years later, a sultan of Armenian origin gave it to the Gregorians. The Romans continue to frequent Ayazma, the sacred spring where there is a chapel dedicated to St Gregory the Illuminator. Believers come to fill bottles with this water considered beneficial. The church has workshops and shops in its northern part.
