It was built between 1886 and 1888 in the era of Sultan Abdülhamid II. The central dome, supported by four thick pillars, is carved of stars inside and along the outer corniche of its drum. The inner drum is traversed by mother-made friezes in ebony panels, placed on the walls of the mosque.
