MOSQUE OF THE HOLY MAHMUD HÜDAYI EFENDI (AZIZ MAHMUD HÜDAYI EFENDI CAMII VE TEKKESI)
The mosque is part of a set that was built in 1594 at the request of the Sultana Mother Mihrimah and the daughter of the great vizier Rüstem Paşa, Ayşe Hanım, for Mahmud Hüdayi Efendi (1541-1628), a personality recognized as a saint at his time and founder of the congregation of the Celvetiye. After having known eight successive sultans and earned respect for all, he is buried at this very location, in the mausoleum next to the mosque, with eleven other catafalques containing the remains of his relatives. The tombs and burials of other illustrious characters are scattered on the outskirts of the mosque. He left behind about thirty theological works, seven of them written in Turkish. The mosque in question is small and covered with a single dome.
