AYAZMA MOSQUE (AYAZMA CAMII)
Commissioned in 1760 to the architect Mehmed Tahir Ağa at the time of Sultan Mustafa III (1757-1774) who dedicates her to his mother, the sultana Mihrişah Emine, and his brother, Prince Süleyman. Her name comes from a source of sacred water (ayazma) on which it was erected. It is in baroque style, with its central area covered with a large dome. The retardataires of the retardataires is surmounted by 3 domes based on 8 columns. The épigraphe dated 1760, which appears on the pediment of the left door, contains an inscription calligraphy in the sin'taliq style, work of Veliyüddin. The mihrab is in red porphyry, and the minbar in filigree marble is filigree and sculpted. The imperial box, located east of the mosque, is covered with Italian tiled panels. The calligraphy inside the mosque are Master Seyyid Mustafa. The direction of the mosque towards the sea has helped to develop a central exterior facade that will become the rule in constructions of the th century. The sultans, for their part, will take the habit of receiving dignitaries in their imperial boxes adjacent to mosques.
