It was built at the time of Sultan Abdülaziz (1861-1876) by the architect Serkis Balian, son of Garabed Balian. An imperial residence for a short period of time, the building then serves as the Assembly of Deputies in 1909 and 1910. Ravaged by a fire on 20 January 1910, carcasse and intact parts of the palace were seized by a French occupying Army engineer Battalion between 1920 and 1922. Completely restored, the palace has become one of the jewels of a high-end international hotel chain.
