Fleeing the Inquisition, the Camondo family found refuge in Venice and then in Istanbul in the early th century. Very quickly, it is one of the city's influential families. Finance becomes its favourite sector. One of its members, the banker Abraham Solomon will be known as "the Rothschild of the Orient" in the th century! In the th century, the affairs of the empire from evil to worse, part of the family migrates in Paris. However, the family is carefully maintaining its links with Istanbul. After his death (1873), the body of Abraham Solomon was repatriated and, with the ceremonies worthy of a head of state, he was buried in a mausoleum that he had built in the cemetery of Hasköy. Part of the population also attends it, certainly remembering the generosity of the family towards Istanbul. The palace in Kasım Paşa, owned by the Navy, is one of the legacies left to the city.
