KIOSK OF AYNALI KAVAK (AYNALIKAVAK KASRI)
This building, known today as the pavilion of Aynalı Kavak (Palais des Glaces), is the only building that has remained intact among a set of pavilions and kiosks of the Ottoman era, known as the palace of Aynalı Kavak (Palace of the Shipyard). It is a place of relaxation and resort reserved for emperors in Byzantine times. These vines and groves attract the attention of Ottoman sultans, and this as from the capture of Constantinople by Mehmed the Conqueror. The imperial shipyard is set up and expanded in the Kasım Paşa district, while the surrounding area is called «Imperial Gardens of the Shipyard». The present pavilion is built in the era of Ahmed III, transformed under Selim III. It owes its name to the exceptional mirrors offered by the Republic of Venice in 1718: they give lounges an air gallery air. Selim III would have composed in this pavilion the bulk of his musical work.
