POST OFFICE MUSEUM (PTT ISTANBUL MÜZESI)
On 4 floors, the Grande Poste was built in 1909. On its side, there is a museum which retrace, as you can imagine, the entire history of the Turkish post, from the Ottoman Empire. It was at the time of Sultan Abdülhamid II (1876-1909) that the telephone entered the empire. After the large marble staircases, a thematic exhibition: post, telegraph, telephone, stamps. Among what can draw attention first: the reconstitution of uniforms, weapons, mailboxes, the copy of the first telegraph sent after the lines installed, the chamber of Hamdi Bey, the employee who informed Atatürk of the occupation of the city, a copy of the first device invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1882, stamps as the very first in Turkish history (1863).
