Covering an area of over 18 hectares, it is set on a hill overlooking the Bosphorus and is home to several hundred-year-old trees. It features several terraces offering superb panoramic views, walking paths and children's play areas. The pavilion stands on a steep slope. Designed by an Italian architect for Egypt's last Khedive, Abbas Hilmi Paşa (Abbas II, 1892-1914), who wanted a replica of one of his Nile properties.
