ÜÇ SEREFELI MOSQUE
Built in 1447, the 'Three Balconies' Mosque is an interesting example of the transition from the Seljuq style to the classical style of Istanbul. The mosque, built by order of Sultan Murat II, dominates the centre of the city of Edirne and has four minarets, each unique, built at different periods. The three balconies that adorn the fourth minaret gave the mosque its name. For the first time in the history of Ottoman architecture, a courtyard was included in a mosque with the şadırvan (ablution fountain) in the centre.
