It's the oldest imperial mosque in the city. Built by the sons of Beyazıt I from 1403 to 1414, its square shape is reminiscent of a fortress. A series of arches and columns support nine small domes and its style is reminiscent of several mosques in Bursa. Inside, impressive calligraphy adorns the walls. Opposite the mosque, the bedesten, Edirne's first covered market, is a rectangle topped by 14 domes. In the past, its vaults were used to store valuables such as carpets and jewellery.
