Kaleiçi ("inside the castle") covers the historical quarter, the old town, which dates back to medieval times. The old streets still protect some wooden houses from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. This district was the medieval city where the Byzantines settled when the Ottomans took over the city and then the Jews and Armenians. A short stroll allows you to discover the facades that have managed to survive the ages. It also remains the great synagogue of Manyas Caddesi (Büyük Sinagog), built in 1906, the only one of the city.
