This holiday is in honor of the battles of the Ottoman state during the First World War.
This name is given to the victorious battles fought by the Ottoman state against the joint Franco-British maneuver that planned to seize the straits of Çanakkale and Istanbul during the First World War. This confrontation remains one of the great Ottoman successes, famous in the collective memory as the founder of the national identity. It marked the beginning of the rise of Mustafa Kemal, one of the main actors of the war of independence and first president of the country.
