AMBASSADE DE BELGIQUE
Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is a modern, dynamic city. It was chosen as the headquarters of the Turkish resistance by Atatürk in 1920, during the War of Independence. Since then, Ankara has become a strategic and symbolic city for the country. Today, it is home to over 4 million inhabitants and continues to grow rapidly. The city is mainly made up of modern districts designed by European urban planners. However, it also boasts some older quarters, bearing witness to its millennia-old history. Ankara has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, and was home to various civilizations such as the Phrygians, Lydians and Galatians. It was also an important Christian city in the time of Saint Paul. Sights to visit in Ankara include the Atatürk Mausoleum, which dominates the city and pays homage to the founder of the Turkish Republic. Other sights include the National Assembly, Kizilay Square and the Monument of Confidence, as well as numerous embassies. Ankara is a pleasant city to visit, with a dry, sunny climate all year round. It offers an interesting blend of history, modernity and Turkish culture.
