The Aslanhane Camii, the "Mosque of the Lion House", the oldest in Ankara, owes its name to the stone fawn that adorns the courtyard of this Seljuk mosque. Built in the 13th century, it has no dome but has wooden columns that carry a cedar ceiling, a magnificent mihrab decorated with blue faience and a pulpit (minbar) of carved walnut. It is both the oldest and largest mosque in Ankara. Nearby, in front of the citadel, is the popular shopping district of Saman Pazarı.
