On the port, located below the fortress, facing the peninsula, the red stone tower, which gave it its name of Kizil kule (Red Tower), was built in 1226 during the reign of Alaeddin Keykubad to defend the city and the arsenal. It is 33 m high and octagonal in shape, giving a good idea of the importance of Syrian military architecture. In fact, it is connected to the upper fortress by a long wall interspersed with no less than 146 towers and 3 fortresses. The building has become the symbol of the city.
